The experimental screen printers

In the studio recently we have been extremely busy with a huge range of projects.  We have printed acrylic panels for restored computers, water slide transfers, cork boards, metal switch boards, mdf, silicone swimming caps and now a lycra for a super hero suit! A few key printing tips

A lot of screen printing is down to the preparation of the screen.  Having a good tension and clean mesh are key.  So the emulsion can adhere to the mesh it needs to be de-greased first (even when they are new straight from the factory).  Always coat at least once each side of the mesh.  A lot of problems that occur with exposure of the screen are down to under exposure.  The UV light penetrates weak film positives and starts to expose the emulsion.  If you have solid black film positives they will absorb the UV light for longer and...

The front room, display and shop for open access artists to sell their products.

So the studio has had a spruce up thanks to some floor paint and a trip to Ikea.  We have made the front room into a display of handprinted products from the studio.  Artists who use the studio will be offered space in the front room to display (and sell) their products.  It is a great way to showcase the artists talents and inspire others to screen print onto different products and materials.  At the moment it is really a shrine for Emily Parker (www.emilyparkerillustration.com) but the shelves are going to diversify soon enough.  We have also printed up some...

New Year, lots to look back on.

The studio has been open for more than a year now and looking back at the fantastic people I have met and taught I am really excited about the new year.   In particular meeting people who are starting new businesses has been exciting as we work on the techniques and materials they need to start. Small businesses like Emily Williams Inspirations Tiny Rebels, Juice, Force Wear, Ink Pusher amongst others.   A highlight has been being part of the 20:20 print exchange again as artists get to indulge in a project that isn’t commercial and just lets them express their practice...

So the studio is holding workshops, filming a video series and getting lots of stock ready for more County Shows and market stalls happening in the next few months. We have had new printers in to start building their ranges and even installed a swing and punchbag??  We have also finished some wedding commissions, printed art prints and many more projects for our customers.     Some photos of a couple of projects we have been working on.....
